Is your newsroom exploring how to increase trust with the audience? Have you been implementing engaged journalism and would like to share the challenges you face and find solutions for it? Have you been looking for new ideas on how to connect with communities around you?
Apply and participate in the engaged journalism workshop to analyze how empowering communities and their conversations could improve your daily reporting.
The 4-days-workshop on October 5th-8th will be guided by Gerd Maria May, a founder of Room of Solutions.
What is in the program:
- you will learn how to engage your audience in your constructive journalism;
- you will get to know a lot of examples of how media all over the world are working with the way they produce their journalism in order to get more relevant to their audience;
- You will work with the journalistic values STEP. The STEP- model focuses on Solutions, Trust, Engagement, and Perspective;
- you will see hands-on examples of how to create engaging and constructive journalism with the STEP-model;
- you will create a plan for how to work with the STEP-model when you return to your newsroom;
- you will share your experience in engaged journalism and find solutions for the current challenges.
When and where:
The workshops will take place from 5th to 8th October 2022. It will be held in Lithuania in Innovators’ Valley in Antaliepte. The organizers will take care of your travel arrangements to Antaliepte.
Who can participate:
The workshop is open to professional journalists and other media makers from EU countries.
We encourage participating newsrooms, organizations, and startups that implement engaged journalism.
Journalists who want to learn more about engaged journalism are also welcome.

- Travel costs reimbursed after the event (limit: 200 EUR)
- Accommodation, breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are covered by the organizers

Background
The training is one of the activities of the Media For Citizens Story Lab project, which aims to empower professional and citizen media makers to connect with their audience, and together shed light on socially important topics and possible solutions. The project is implemented by Media4Change, a movement for the highest standards in journalism.
